Star Trek is Fun

Guest post written by my buddy Brian Workman
I can get Star Trek on a couple of channels on my satellite TV that I got after seeing this http://www.directstartv.com and I've probably seen each episode a half a dozen times. I remember watching it growing up and being taken in by the “great” special effects. Of course now they seem pretty tame compared to the Star Trek movies or the other space movies like Alien or the Star Wars saga. What I like best about Star Trek is its campiness. It deals with real honest issues like pollution and war and even politics. The fun is in the acting, especially Captain Kirk, played by William Shatner. Kirk is impossibly moral and each episode seems to test the limits of that morality. By now his scenery-chewing acting has become almost parody to me, but back then I thought he was the best actor I'd ever seen. Spock (Leonard Nimoy) is the exact opposite of Kirk, dispassionate and highly logical. Although they are both smart, a lot of Kirk's intelligence is street smarts. Spock is book smart and the combination of the two characters working together to solve the problems of the universe is always entertaining. It shows that there are different viewpoints that can reach the same conclusions, which, in today's politically correct environment seems almost quaint.

Sorry for the lack of posts. I'll be slowly coming back with pic filled posts but my many performances is getting in the way. But I'll be back very soon with the site revamped and lots of pictures.
